Good News! We crossed the figure of 20,000 Scholars!!!

As you are well aware Foundation for Economic and Educational Development is committed to the upliftment of the poor and meritorious students, belonging to interior and remote villages of the State of Andhra Pradesh. For the past one and half decades more than 80,000 students have been given financial assistance and many of them who were once recipients of Zakat, are now working for reputed MNCs. The have become Zakat payers as well. The social and financial status these students improved beyond their expectation. As per our Vision 2015, we have planned to create/foster 6 Professionals and 25 Graduates in each of the 15,000 villages we are covering.

In this academic year, we are very happy to inform that the number of our scholars crossed 20,000 and an amount of Rs.10 crores ($ 2.63 Millions) has been approved as scholarships to them.

Still another 250 students are to be given scholarships before the end of 3rd week of March 2008.

As of now, we are having a deficit of Rs.40 lakhs and another Rs.18 lakhs will be added to this figure on account of the pending scholarships. Thus the total deficit comes to Rs. 58 lakhs (US$ 153 thousands).

In view of the above situation, we request you to come forward to help these deserving students. Our regular donors are requested to donate once again and those who have not sent their donations so far are requested to donate at least US$ 150 which is the average scholarship per student. Please respond at the earliest, so that we can meet the deficit and come to the rescue of these poor and brilliant students.

Appeal for Funds

My dear Brothers and Sisters,

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

My day began today reading the headline of an article that a friend sent me which reads: ‘Arabic science pre-dates Newton’. The author then proceeded to present all sorts of historical facts to prove that Muslims had advanced scientific knowledge long before Newton’s head became the recipient of the dropping apple. Having read the article, I had only one question to ask the author; “So what?” Arabs/Muslims knew all sorts of scientific things 1000 years ago, so what? What difference does it make to us Muslims today?

This letter is not a history lesson. I am drawing your attention to underline one fact; that purely by the grace of Allah, a change has happened in the world and you have been put in charge of your own destiny. The change is that Allah has once again done what He does best – ensuring that everyone gets an opportunity to make their place in the Jannah. So He placed intelligence, courage, fortitude, dedication, single minded focus, the will to excel and the most amazing perseverance that I have ever seen, in the hearts of children from the poorest villages in India. And to balance that he has put concern, kindness, compassion in your hearts and some money in your pockets. And with this Allah has created a combination that if it comes together, then we will not need to talk about what happened before. Instead the world will talk about what they will see happening currently. And every one of those who make things happen will have a Muslim name.

I ask you only one question; “Do you want to see this; to be a part of this?” If the answer is, “Yes,” then do what you know you need to do. Do that which will put your name on the list when Allah orders His angels to call the names of all those who helped His Deen.

My brothers and sisters, the way to win the hearts is to do things to help humanity. These can only be done by people of knowledge, who have the education to know what to do. The way to the hearts and minds is through the belly. To do this we need Muslims in every branch of science and technology. And that is what I am writing to you about.

This year to date by the grace of Allah and your generosity we have given scholarships to 18,500 students (spending Rs. 8.5 Cr. $ 2.24 M), half of them are in professional courses. May Allah reward you abundantly for this.

In the final phase we have 2000 more students whose hopes are pinned on getting a scholarship. As on date we have a current running deficit of Rs. 50 lakhs and need an additional Rs. 75 lakhs for these 2000 students (totally Rs. 1.25 Cr. $ 3,28,000). The situation is critical because these students have studied very hard, sacrificed much and today the key to the door leading to their future is in your hands.

Alhamdulillah these are hands which Allah has used in the past to open this door. The door to His pleasure. The door to Jannah. I ask Him to use you again to open the door for these children to become standard bearers of Islam and through them and their effort, our (your) door to Jannah.
